Your case presents some difficulty because employers are terrified of driving their insurance costs up so high that they can't provide insurance for the remainder of their employees. I would suggest you register with several good temporary agencies with the goal of getting long term temporary assignments (three to six months). Often these temporary assignments become permanent once you have proven yourself as reliable and indispensable.

I have done Temp to Hire work many times and all too often the job assignment ends long before any permanent position is ever offered. I have found that Temp Agencies do not want to allow you to get a permanent position in a company because if you do they lose money from it. Most Temp Agencies here in my home state expect too much of their temp employees as far as reliability and dependability. If you can't make it to a job they don't want you at all. They do not even care to hear your reasonings why you can't get to an assignment. Many Temp Agencies will hire you and give you assignments despite certain obstacles that may stand in your way. However many companies today do all kinds of background checks on individuals for work. If you come back unfavorable you are out of a job. If you have for example a criminal record you can't and won't get any consideration even with an explanation. If you have a bad credit history as well many potential employers will not hire you either. If you have certain health issues which prevent you from doing things like heavy lifting an employer won't hire you because they do not wont the risk at all.

I am currently driving & delivering pizzas. The pay is good with the tips.

It is part time and I live and work in a safe community. This is a good job. I am looking to add more work to help with my income.

Have you tried part time work or are you looking for full time only? Some part time jobs are stepping stones to the full time work.

While you were unemployed, is there something that you were doing or could have been doing at home to keep you busy, even if you did not really consider it employment? What skills were involved?

Now, is there something you could start doing at home or from home which would confirm that you have some (or all) of the skills which your target job demands?

Maybe, you could start with an inventory on the first and the second above and surprise yourself. What do you think?

Also, I found that volunteer work can lead to jobs. Is there a business that you want to work at that is not hiring now, however, you might be able to volunteer there? Just a thought......

Well, YES, that is totally understandable, and why would you think otherwise?.

You were hired assuming you would be there to do the job when you are needed, to be otherwise, I'd have no interest hiring you either.

I don't mean to be harsh or unkind, but I suggest you might need to adjust your attitude a whole lot. You aren't seeing the reality of the situation, they don't need you, there are hundreds applying for work everyday, what sets you apart?

You haven't been in the job market for 3 years by your own admission and I think there is more to your story than you are telling us. I say that because in jobs just like in life... "you either have what you want, or you have all the reason why you don't" You are focusing on the reasons why you are not getting a job, no wonder your search is fruitless.

I wish I could buy you for what you are actually worthy and sell you for what you think you are worth. Now think about that for a moment, your attitude hasn't seen reality in many years, again I ask you to answer for yourself... "what do I offer a prospective employer?"

How about being there on the job 5 minutes before your start time, how about being there to actually bring benefit to the employer, having a great attitude and adding to the workforce, not sucking the life out of it. I wish you well and hope you come to a better attitude about your value in the workforce.

Having the right attitude is 99% of the battle. Just a quick reality check.
