Luckily, 45 miles away is not too far for keeping in touch with old friends. As you say, this is a transition to a new beginning in life and things will be very different. Hopefully, a "good" difference. And, certainly way better than the state of the land in and around your old farm. Your lovely memories will only grow more vivid over time.

I am sure you are right--I keep saying to myself, "change is good, change is good, change is good." And it will be good. The process may be a pain in the backside--moving an entire farm is much more of a task than moving from one house to another! I'll keep looking at it as an adventure--and I'll probably need to be reminded now and then that it is a good thing!

I remember growing up on a farm and if things havent changed people tend to be very warm and welcoming. Just try to become involved in the community life and things should go well.

I live in a small community of about 600. I wish you and your family all the best in your move. I know how hard it would be for me if we had to make such a decision. I threw an absolute fit when we moved off the farm into town just a few miles from the farm but it did work out for the best in our case. My thoughts and prayers will be with you in your transition. Thanks, Cece, I appreciate your comments. The family has been on this place since 1960 and we've lived here all our married life so it won't be an easy change. Some people pick up and move on a whim--farm people can't just do that! It will be interesting, to say the least, and I am trying to look upon it as an "adventure", which gives it a more positive light!

best wishes to you kle. i had to leave my farm when i divorced and i left a lot of my heart behind. but, you have your family and you will have another farm. farmers stick together. you will find people. church is a good place. and as you well know, farm folks, when they have the time, tend to just drop by.

My husband and I had to move off our farm of 20 yrs two years ago due to health issues. We had to move into town. One of the things I did was took many more pictures, ones that hold meaning to you - the tree your kids first climbed, the spot where one of them had their first bug encounter all the memories that are important to you. I even took pictures of the spot in the fence that my Arabian could always figure out how to undue to come into the yard.

I also went around to my flower beds and harvested seeds, roots and bulbs to move with me to the new place and that gave me a sense of continuity. It's not easy, but you are getting to go to another farm and that is something to rejoice about.

It is an adventure and you will have to keep telling yourself that - no one has really moved until they've had to move a farm! Hold on, it will get better and pretty soon this new farm will be your home.
