I'd briefly looked at Barbara Kingsolver and decided she was NOT someone I wanted to read. Then my book group chose "Poisonwood Bible" one month. I gave it a go, thinking I just would not attend the next meeting if I could not get through the novel. Hah! I was so captured by the unique writing style, the story, the power of the book that I was swept away. Interestingly enough, most members of the book group vehemently disliked the selection.

I then grabbed Kingsolver's "Pigs in Heaven" off the Amazon shelves. Whoa! An Arizona setting (I live there) and an entirely different yet heart-wrenching story I could not put down.

As of today, I believe I've devoured every book Kingsolver has written.

Did you read Prodigal Summer? That doesn't get as much play as Poisonwood Bible (which I loved just as much) but Kingsolver's writing style just captured me in Prodigal.

With that in mind, I was surprised that I didn't enjoy Pigs in Heaven. Go figure??!

I loved all the early Kingsolver books but got stuck on PB. One of these days, when the dogs are over the bridge, I will curl up with a cat and try it again. I think it requires more than my usual two or three pages between tasks.

I love Barbara Kingsolver and I think "Poisonwood Bible" was the best.
