what science fiction/ fantasy books are you reading now? what is your favorite author or series?

I skip around in my genres. So I am not reading my fantasy authors right now. But...one of my favorite authors is David Eddings and I just love the Belgariad and the Malloreon series.
I just finished DISPOSSESSED by Ursula LeGuin. To be honest, I read it because I am using it in a course on politics and literature. And am I glad I did, she does a great job in showing how an anarchist society ends up as rule bound as any other. It also shows how societal norms tend to reflect the economic rules.

I skip around in my genres.

I do this, too. Next on my list is "Mirror, mirror" by Maguire. Ones that I re-read are the Master Li series by Barry Hughart.
I'm reading "The Name of the Wind" by Patrick Rothfuss. Got rave fantasy review. So far not too bad.
Kind of freaky if you go back and read Lucius Sheppard's Life During Wartime, which was written back in the 80s, how he has wars fought by corporations, rather than nations. Now look at Iraq with Blackwater, Halliburton, etc.
Then pick up 1984 by George Orwell.
And Futureland by Walter Moseley.
Sometimes fiction is more true than the news.
On an unrelated tangent, Lucius Sheppard's The Jaguar Hunter is pretty incredible.
If I can resort to shameless self-promotion, I have a science fiction/sexual identity novel that never took off, The Lamp Post Motel, which never really got out there. Here's the setup:
What if UFOs are graduate students of the future researching here in the past? Grad students in sexual anthropology come to a sleazy Tucson motel for field research. They find that the owner is watching his customers perform on hidden cameras.
The experiment: drop the owner's mind into the bodies of the people he's watching. Please check it out at http://thelamppostmotel.com.

I got a stack of 'dark' paranormal fantasies from a visit with my in-laws, so I have a stack of Tanya Huff, Jess Battis, Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, etc. on my reading table right now.
Otherwise I'm finishing up the first three Stainless Steel Rat books. I've read them before and I love them.
I read the first Fafhrd and the Grey Mouser book on vacation (Swords Against Deviltry??) and I plan on reading the second through fifth again this summer. I didn't really like the last one, #6, so I'm skipping it.
Oh, and I adore Simon R. Greene so I picked up "Man With a Golden Torq" yesterday. My summer reading list is full at the moment. :-)
