Just finished reading, Chinaman's Chance, published in 1978; Author: Ross Thomas.
What was 'hot' in 1978 is just plain annoying to read today.
This book just meanders back and forth with no real plot; the plot is mostly about guys being tough and distant. Think 'wiseguys' is about the best way to describe it. None of the characters are interesting, just sketches of various movie roles. The wiseguys are taking over all the vices in one town and want to take them over nationwide (Not a new idea really).
About the only thing that caught my attention was the difference in technology in 1978 vs. 2007.
Finally in the last few chapters does it speed along.

I was vaguely aware that Tami Hoag is a mystery writer, so when I saw her novel, "Taken by Storm", I'd thought I'd give Hoag a try.
The book turned out to be a romance novel -- a very bad romance novel.
It seems Hoag, like many authors, started out writing romance novels of the Harequin variety.
I NEVER throw books away. This one went into the bin. I won't waste my time with her mysteries, either.
