Hi - I have a good friend who is in his fifties,and he's having tremendous luck reaching people on Myspace. I know it's mostly younger people, but there are adults, too, and who knows - you might reach all kinds of people! Just a thought...

Getting fans from social networking sites ain't easy. Alice started on MySpace and musicians love her (10,00+). She started a Fan Page and has about 40 real people. She uses ReverbNation and OurStage to get in fromt of producers and labels. She is on FaceBook and about three other social networking sites,

But the best Fan base still comes from gigs and maillists.

we've been doing good on myspace too. just started a few weeks ago on FACEBOOK. there are alot more adults there than i thought.

I"m not sure how you can get your music included in Pandora, but it's a great site that I check daily for new music.

Age is really irrelevent today. the 45-54 demographic buys more cds than any other age group, and it's not just known talent, but unknown talent as well. iTunes, CDBaby, Rhapsody, eMusic, eFOlk ... all are worthy resources for discovery. Also, public radio in any given region has become the new place for the 40+ set to discover new stuff. It's about having product available that is as good as anything that a music director might receive from any label, regardless of professional stature.

i agree with chris - age is pretty much irrelevant. college and even many high school kids have a wide array of musical interests/tastes that includes much of the same we enjoy. my daughter was thrilled to attend a simon and garfunkel concert with me about 5 years ago, when she was in high school. in fact she did the inviting - i was thrilled to go with her. admittedly, when the everly brothers made a surprise appearance at this concert she was less than elated and thought my awestruck reaction was a little strange. (ok, maybe you can only take them back so far). she took me to see CSNY, too, a year later. so, i wouldn't discount the 20 something's potential as a good audience base - a look at some of their facebook profiles reveals pretty broad interests. you might even try scheduling a performance at a community college or small university - all ages attend these functions. good luck!

Living just twenty minutes from downtown Cleveland,here is a great local coffeeshop called the PHOENIX that Julie Hutchison owns and loves having new independent musicians play here.Myspace and facebook are great tools for teenagers and adult social networking although I wouldnt trust my fans(If I was a musician) to find my music there.Word of mouth and EP Cds are the norm here in Lakewood.XELA is one of the most popular indies and He produces his own CDs.
