Favorite Group Names

I admit I'm probably too young (27) to be in this group, but starting with the times as a child I went through my parents' record collection, I've always loved older rock n' roll.

I've always liked some of the group names. Some of my faves:

The Mothers of Invention

Southwind

The Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band

John Mayall's Bluesbreakers

Crazy Elephant (I've always pictured a cartoon with an all-elephant rock band)

The Nashville Teens (British!)

The Flying Burrito Brothers

Dr. West's Medicine Show & Junk Band (Norman Greenbaum)

Cat Mother & the All Night Newsboys

Poco

I could list more, and maybe sometime I will. It's all about the music, and if it's good, the name doesn't much matter. Or does it?

They gotta do something about those make up jobs. Don't get me started on their platform shoes, but then they're really not making fashion statements, are they? Sometimes, I want to rock and roll all night myself.

Strawberry Alarm Clock's follow-up was called "Barefoot in Baltimore", which I liked a lot, I thought it was at least equal to "Incense & Peppermints", but it did next-to-nothing on the charts. The group then did their disappearing act after that. I understand a couple of them were part of some disco group later on, but I don't have specific details.

Actually Ed King, guitarist for the Strawberry Alarm clock joined the Jacksonville,Fl. group Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1972 as a bass player when their bassist temporarily left the group. Ed later moved to guitarist. He co-wrote the song "Sweet Home Alabama. Ed left the group in 1975.
