John Mellencamp - Life, Death, Love and Freedom, produced by T Bone Burnett
By THE NEW YORK TIMES Published: July 7, 2008 - John Mellencamp, 56, is feeling his age and then some on “Life Death Love and Freedom.” It’s an album presented like a deathbed testament: bleak, solitary, bluesy and unbowed. In “Don’t Need This Body” Mr. Mellencamp sings, “All I got left is a headful of memories/And a thought of my upcoming death,” and that just about sums up the album.
John Hiatt - Same Old Man
Entertainment Weekly - It finds Hiatt's country-tinged songwriting and mordant sense of humor in top form. [6 June 2008, p.119]
Paste Magazine - On his 19th studio album (20th overall), John Hiatt has rediscovered his muse--more wrinkled and greyer than before, but central to a musically unvarnished song cycle tracing the ups and downs of a long-term relationship.... Two of these songs rank with Hiatt’s best work.
