What do you think of the Large Hadron Collider?
COMMENT

Romi: Hope this is "on topic"
It is not the corners we have to worry about but the slippery slopes.
We've got one coming up in Nov.
Whoops, guess I did veer off topic.
Every bit as safe as your link states.
Remember when we went to the moon? Some said the surface was fine dust meters deep and the lander would sink taking the astronauts with it. Didn't happen. We knew it wouldn;t before leaving earth.
How about nuclear reactors setting the world on fire? Some thought man made reactors, particularly the bomb version, would set the world on fire. Scientists did the math (literally) and proved it wouldn't happen before the first reaction was started. Now, hundreds of bombs including fusion bombs later, we're still here.
Hum. Did the results of the nuclear reactor math say that it was impossible, or merely highly improbable?
Other stuff that I read, can't remember where (of course) suggested that the dangers of the collider were not impossible, only very improbable.
All that said, I think it's cool, especially if they can answer some of the questions they outline on their website.
The math said impossible. It has to do with the strength of electron bonds and absorption of radiation.
So it's highly probable that the world won't end when the collider goes live.
:)
Well, I wouldn't go that far.
But it won't be because of LHC :-)
The world is not going to end now but is going to suffer some small cataclisms and then a new era better than what we have experienced so far will start.
