Predicting Earthquakes

Scientists have found a way to measure changes in fractures deep in the earth that seem to occur before well before an earthquake occurs. In one case, over 10 hours before.

Will this finally lead to enough lead time for people to evacuate questionable buildings and even whole areas?

Ten hours would not be enough time to evacuate the San Francisco Bay Area or the LA basin but it's better then the few seconds between the P and S waves which is all the warning we get now. We could at least fill the bathtubs with water.

I read an article in the New York Times - probably Science Times which used to appear on Tuesdays . . .
This was back around 1996. We were bouncing sound waves through the earth.
