ScienceDaily (July 23, 2008) — A new fossil discovery- the first of its kind from the whole of the Antarctic continent- provides scientists with new evidence to support the theory that the polar region was once much warmer.
The fossil pictured in the link is less than 1 mm long. It was found in the Dry Valleys area and indicates a high altitude lake existing circa 14 million years ago with tundra-like conditions.
That compares to the current mean annual temp of -25* degrees C.

*Corrected, Thanks Bull. 77 is degrees latitude, not temp.
