Gayle, it is a lot like water. Two H(ydrogen) bonds, but it has other bonds.

at first i thought this was the same "superwater" i saw advertised on a late night infomercial. it claimed to be a powerful disinfectant but as safe as water because it is in fact water with an extra oxygen molecule "infused." lets see... H2O + O = H2O2 = HO = ...hydrogen peroxide! so that was a scam!

anyway, THIS article is really big news. we may finally be able to lay our fears of toxic air to rest in a few years if this discovery can be utilized soon. very encouraging!

Been a long time since I've taken chemistry. The nitrogen is interesting. Is it 2NH3O2 ? I wonder if there's any relationship of this molecule to lightning? They don't come right out and say "for sure" that the nitrogen is scavenged from the atmosphere. How do they know it's taking nitrogen from pollutants and that it didn't occur naturally "as-is".

And what is the reaction that they're talking about? The formation of the molecule into this six sided structure? This sounds more like a crystallization process than the normal chemical reaction. And this would speed up with cooling and a decrease in pressure.
