I can't remember if it's mentioned but the process is called sonoluminescence.

Oooo thanks Fromz, saved me the trouble of googling it now that both my teams (Colts and Cowboys) bit the dust. Talk about deja vu too! Thought I was watchin the same game twice!
Wow! That is neat!

What? I found an energy area I know as much about as you do?
Naw, you're just strokin my ego.
If you think that's neat you'll love this:
Some have suggested the energy in sonoluminesence comes from a relative of the Casmir effect - zero point energy - true energy from nothing.
Quickie physics lesson follows. Everyone ignore if you wish.
Physics, Quantum Mechanics branch, says matter appears in paired but opposite particles in the vacuum of space. The particles meet and destroy themselves because they're opposites, disappearing back to wherever they came from. A matter anti-matter type thing. Also out there is virtual light - photons that don't exist in our universe.
Some propose the bubble draws photons in by vacuum energy around it as it collapses and keeps the photon in our universe releasing enery we can use.

Wicked!! Course I always wondered...if you catch one how do you know whether you got a quark or an antiquark? Do I have to keep it away from that one over there? Can I ask it if it's left-handed or right-handed? Who knows.
Well CERN may soon know. Not only do they have the biggest durned particle accelerator around nowadays, they have an antiparticle decelerator. Things that make ya go hmmmmm...
But hey, anything that inverts it's strangeness by conjugation floats my boat ;)

Oh and I beg to differ lol. You probably know as much or more about the plasma fusion reactors as I do I'm sure. I only recently became interested when I heard about the St. Lucie one. That they were using old tires etc for fuel. Once I looked into it I thought it was the coolest thing ever but don't really know a lot about it. I was hoping to learn more with that post.

LOL I bet they thought I was kidding on the profile questions when I said my favorite class was quantum physics...

Hey, I never took quantum anything (I'm naturaly quantum lazy tho).
I can give you an article that describes the way St Lucie works: http://www.popsci.com/popsci/printerfriendly/science/873aae7bf86c0110vgnvcm1000004eecbccdrcrd.html
Nothing fancy, no resemblance to a fusion reactor :(
Check this link to satisfy a quantum physics jag. I'm sure the Reverse-time causality device will satisfy. ALso got some words on fusion efforts: http://cosmiclog.msnbc.msn.com/archive/2008/01/09/566532.aspx
Oh dear, google "st lucie plasma reactor" and your thread shows up already.
