My Body Mass Index was about 34 and I weighed almost 84kg. My cheeks were chubby and I looked at least five years older than my real age, at least by my estimate. My blood pressure was not the best it could be, my pulse rate was a little too fast. My doctor warned that I had to do something about losing weight and ensuring that my blood pressure was not more than 120/80.
I tried all forms of diet to no avail. I exercised for 1hr at least 5 times a week but the weight remained at 84kg although my body was firmer. I would pant climbing the stairs and snored a bit. I was about giving up when my doctor said I could try Orlistat, trade name Xenical. I used it for about 8months and lost 8kg. I took it anytime I ate oily food, I cut down a bit on calories and doubled up on my exercise. It was like magic, the weight melted.
There was really no side effect, except for the oily stool and flatulence at the begining,
My doctor said I should not use it for more than 8months, that it was just to jump start my weight loss.
That was 4 years ago. I have not lost any more weight but I havent put on any either. I exercise 4 times a week and try ( really) to count calories - a herculean task.
Xenical is by prescription but it works wonder.
