Although I was in Tae Kwon Do as a kid, I didn't end up staying with it as long as I wanted... In my late 30's I was working out regularly with hiking, mountain biking, skiing, and a variety of other sports and activities - but never managed to get to the shape I wanted. Suddenly I'm in my 40's and determined. I decided to jump in and start taking traditional Japanese Goju Ryu Karate! It took me a little while to make it through a class without thinking I was going to fall over - but then it began to happen... my weight started dropping and before I knew it I had lost over 30 pounds! It wasn't long before I was in the better shape than I ever was in my 30's... and maybe the latter part of my 20's.
Having been in it for two years now, I'm a big believer in Martial Arts as a major portion of my healthy living! It even helps balance out stress and leaves me very well centered. Nothing spiritual about it - it is just exercise.
Has anyone else found Martial Arts has worked for them?!? If so, what styles, what is your workout like?? How long have you been doing it?!?
I even started competing in tournaments - anyone else?
