I am 50 years old. I was a vegetarian for many years and small due to a low fat diet. When I got divorced 5 1/2 years ago I went thru a period of neglecting my diet and getting thru life on heavy meds from a shrink. It took me three years to get off the medication and another year to get myself on track emotionally. I am now ready to address my weight gain and change my eating habits. I have been eating meat for 4 years now. I talked to a fitness trainer who talked about being "fat thin" losing weight by restricting calories and fat but losing muscle because of a reduction in protein. I have started eating every 3 hours without overeating, eating egg whites in the am a protein drink & sml apple for a snack, lunch is chicken with a veg and sml potato, protein drink & sml apple for a snack again and then dinner same as lunch. I was concerned that at 50 I am stuck with what I've gotten as the result of these last 5 + years of bad eating habits but she insists that I can do it. Has anyone out there had any experience starting again at my age?
