I don't use IM (Instant Messenger).
If you email me, I will respond at the first moment I have to write a response of value.
If you call me and I do not pick up, I am on the line already, in a meeting, concentrating, etc. I will get back to you.
It is puzzling to me how many people I work with use IM to communicate on a regular basis.
I do like to move fast. I do like to get things done. But not with IM.
A lot about the popping up of IM messages makes me think about EQ: tiny boxes, appearing quickly, disappearing quickly, all geared for me to write something FAST!
The messages pop up (like senses enter your spinal cord and hit the limbic system in your brain, your "I feel it" section, more later on that), and everything about them is geared for me to make a fast decision. And to write as little as possible.
Improving your EQ comes from understanding what triggers you have and attempting to control the knee-jerk reactions your mind can have when those triggers occur.
It is like controlling the EQ IMs your brain receives.
Resist it. Take a second to allow the IM to reach the rational part of your brain before you click Send.
So, IM, thumbs up, thumbs down?
