Yeah, I remember the commercials for those. I thought they were later than the '70s though.

Do you remember the Barbie or Barbie-type (I think Mattel actually made it) doll that gave birth? It came with a newborn that could be returned shall we say and reborn again. Don't know what they were thinking there. I mean, Barbies are notorius for having incomplete genitaila, so, I'd guess we're talking c-section with a zipper of some sort.

Just the commercials had me thinking that had to be the worst I'd ever seen. I actually felt sorry for who ever thought that one up. I figured they couldn't have stayed employed long after that.

Yes I do remember that doll,It was a big deal back then but I don't remember who made it.

I think her stomach slid open so you get the baby out.

Mattel made a Midge doll pretty like it in the late 90's so I guess someone thought the idea wasn't so bad after all.

Although Mattel also made what I though was much worse in the 90's Potty training Kelly.

She came with a little toilet and a roll of toilet paper Kelly was made to be sort of a squirt gun doll. You fill her up with water,squeeze her out over the toilet an and wipe her off.

Yup. I think that's it. The '90's sounds about right. I wasn't sticking to my own childhood. Between my childhood and my daughter's I babysat a lot. (Like a second job.) And now I have five grandchildren. So, I STILL watch toy commercials. Something tells me I'm going to be a Great-grandmother and still watching toy commercials. LOL!!!

But back to the subject, I think the potty training Kelly went along with the 'family' that had the 'delivering' Midge, Barbie, whoever it was.

The Barbie Midge doll came out about 20 years after the first one who's name I cant recall.

I remember my mother not wanting to buy it for me because it was so contriversial at the time.

Who knows, maybe she thought it would make me pregnant. She had a long standing problem with not letting me have certain toys because they were going to do this or that to me.

Yes you will be watching toy commercials for the rest of your life, thats just part of the deal.

I actually have a whole bunch of VHS tapes with nothing but vintage toy commercials on them. They seem so much more entertaining when your watching them 20 or more years later than they seemed back then.

Also the way they advertised stuff back then was so wrong by todays standards.

No, I didn't remember the first Barbie commercial. What I really do remember is that my mother wouldn't let us have Barbie dolls at all. So, my daughter must have had at least 14 of them. I couldn't afford the real Barbie clothes for her dolls, so I'd buy the patterns and remnants, and fancy trims and make her fancy Barbie clothes that held together better than the ones her friends had. (When I found out the held together better, I didn't feel bad that hers were home made.)

How about Easy Bake Oven and Creepy Crawler oven thingys? LOL!!

Hmm the easy bake oven is still popular. Heck my son wants one but there expensive and pink so I'm trying to find something thats about the same but not a Girly color.

Now if ya wanna get into truly bad ideas they have a couple Little Orphan Annie stove's from the 1930's that I have sitting on my desk.

They are nothing more than a tin stove shaped thing that the child was expected to light candles under and heat up as a stove top burner.

Stuff like that makes me wonder how ayone ever survived childhood back then.

As for Creepy Crawlers my son has those too.

They are great for him but a huge gooey mess for me.

I don't recall the diaper rash baby, but I do recall the barbie-ish type doll who was pregnant. I had one, for a short time. I think mom made it disappear, for some motherly reason back then.

I always wanted the Archie Bunker grandson doll, the little boy baby with a penis. Never got that doll.

I can't really think of the worst toy ever. Oh! I just did! It was a horse track. With little horses that went around in a race. It didnt work! I was heart broken. I was a little horse loving girl, got the toy I wanted so much and it didnt work. We went back to Thornbery's (anyone remember those) to swap it for a working one. They didn't have any working ones. There was a stack of them behind the counter. All had been returned for not working.
