What is the best advice you ever received? Nothing major but those simple little tidbits of advice or sayings that you have applied in your life and have found are worth sharing.
One of the best pieces of advice I ever read was on a plaque hanging on the wall in a friend's kitchen.
"My house is clean enough to be healthy, dirty enough to be happy. "
Following this elminates a lot of the unnecessary stress we experience when expecting perfection of ourselves. A little dust never hurt anyone, no one died because the carpet wasn't vaccumed every day, and the world will not come to a complete standstill if our windows don't sparkle and shine! Being more realistic and cutting ourselves a little slack makes life much more pleasant all the way around.
The second one was in another friend's house:
"A clean house is the sign of a wasted life."
Now, I am the first to admit that my house is not totally immaculate--it definitely has that lived-in look but it is comfortable and my kids' friends spent a lot of time here. Now, I'm not advocating we all live like pigs but there is more to life than trying to keep our houses looking like model homes. It is ok to have a life--just tell everyone the maid died or has the week off--or that you are the maid and you have better things to do for now!
