As a general rule, I don't make New Year's Resolutions because they are doomed to fail. But after the stressful, horrific year I've had I have decided that it's time to get a few things back on track.
Two years ago, in March, I became a full-time patient. Now, being a person that is a completely impatient type, dim physicians don't rank high on my list of people I want to spend time with.
I had just decided to start exercising more, lose some weight, then quit smoking when I developed a hernia and the doctor immediately put me on bedrest to avoid it strangulating before they could repair it with mesh.
I'll skim over the next two years of changing doctors, telling one after another that they were morons and couldn't touch me. In a nutshell, during that 27 month span I have been to 5 surgeons, 4 gynecologists, been in the hospital 5 times, had 3 surgeries, and laid about popping more pain pills than a person ever should need.
Now everything is straightened out, I'm pain-free, and I only take the occasional Ibuprofen for headaches. I'm ready to try again.
I am much farther back on the strength scale than I was then, but I'm ready to get it back up there.
#1 Weight train
#2 Lose weight
#3 Quit smoking (this one has it's own possible side effects, but I'm prepared for that too)
I also have some new goals to add to the list, am I'm starting to feel more fired up to do them.
#4 Start writing again. I haven't been contributing articles to the paper much since my mother died, but I'm starting to feel more inspired again (partially due to the upbeat nature of this site!). I also have two books in very raw form that have been shelved for several months that I'm ready to get back to work on.
#5 Get my house in order again. While on bedrest, my family did the barest of necessities, so it has become a major clutter-fest. I love them for what they did do, but now I'm ready to send them off to do the deep cleaning. My new adopt-o son has been inspirational there. He'll come get me, "C'mon Mom, let's do the dining room. I'm in a cleaning mood." I love it! He makes me move.
#6 More knitting and crocheting. My mother always did it, but I always thought it looked too hard. Since she passed I have her books, so I sat down and went through them. It isn't as hard as I thought, so I've been doing it. I made a scarf for Pooh's gf, and now I'm working on baby afghans for my bff's daughter (due in March), my niece (due in April), and Pooh's ex-gf (to put in her hope chest, cuz I still love her).
#7 I will do everything in my power to improve things for my kids as well. I will help Duck get her health lined out & I will help Pooh get ready for college.
2008 will be a much better year.
Who else has goals to make the next year a better one?
