Like most things in life, it works for some and not for others.

I've only picked up 1 gal in a bar (not counting that time in the Philipines <G>), so that doesn't work for me.

I've dated multiple women from on-line. None have turned into a long time relationship, but I attribute that more to me being a very unique person.

I have met several people online who have been great additions to my life, whether we continued dating, or not. The beauty of online dating is the ability to get to know someone before committing on any level. If done intelligently, it is a very safe place to meet someone who might be a very special person.

I've made some friends on various sites, but nothing serious. I've come across some real characters too. Profiles loaded with " prefer not to say " answers, even under gender, now that's scary.

I have visited a few sites while filling the void in my life from my broken marriage.

While sites with profiles are interesting, I find I have done better at meeting people on sites that are just pure chat. I can size up a guy in about 5 minutes of chat.

I have some great friends who are only close enough for phone, chat, and webcam contact. They add an interesting element to my life because each is so different from the people I would usually spend time with. Some are close enough that we have dated. They have been great fun with some sex or romance mixed in. Only one major mistake, but hey, everyone messes up from time to time.

There are people who have met husbands/wives through online dating services. So it worked for them. But many people try online dating and get disgusted with all the liars and flakes.

There are advantages and disadvantages to any way that you meet new people: introductions through friends, meeting through work or an interest, hooking up with someone you met years ago, online dating, whatever.

The advantage to online dating is that you can cast a wide net pretty easily. The disadvantage is that people often lie in their profiles, and flake out on meeting.

I've had some meets which went well and some which I couldn't end fast enough. LOL

The lying on profiles happens a lot. Being male, I noticed many women have not idea what average weight would be. Likewise I've been told by some women that men are equally as oblivious to their own body type.....and age.
