Hi
I,m Jake
I love 60 S music...

So do I! Even though I was born in '67', I do prefer listening to 60's music and I'm a huge fan of The Monkees!!!! They're my all time favorite group and I simply love Peter Tork! Any other Monkees and Peter Tork fans out there????

YES YES YES! I have almost all their albums...we could talk all day! I can't STAND the way they get such a bum rap from the so-called music intelligentsia. Yes, they were a put-together group, but the music stands on its own.
Michael Nesmith had already put out several records as Michael Blessing before the show. He wrote 'Different Drum'--which became a hit for the Stone Poneys, and although they quickly disbanded, that hit launched the career of their lead singer, Linda Ronstadt.
Peter Tork had been playing the coffee house circuit.[Did you know his brother was a professional football player?]After the Monkees he got a job teaching at an alternate school for awhile.
Micky Dolenz claims he'd been playing gigs as Mickey and the One Nighters 'before Monkees', but I haven't seen supporting info on that and had never heard it before.
Mr. Checkov on star trek was modeled after Davy Jones.
What's your favorite album? Your favorite song[s]?
I really liked parts of The Birds, The Bees, and the Monkees album: They were attempting songs that were more serious in nature--more adult 'bite' to them--and were attempting this on their own. It's a little 'uneven' in quality, but an honest attempt to do it themselves.
I saw them live about 6 yrs ago--got up-close seats--and it was great! Tork was on keyboard, Micky played acoustic guitar, and Davy was there, too. They looked like they were having a great time.
One year in the '60's--don't remember which--they outsold
the Beatles.
Yeah, I took a lot of heat in high school for liking them. Tough!
Later !

Forgot to mention--
LOVE 60s music...I have most of The Young Rascals and 3 Dog Night albums, almost ALL Beach Boys albums; fan of Gary Lewis & the Playboys [several albums], some Jan & Dean, couple Animals, quite a few Jerry Lee Lewis--Sun albums from his rock n roll days and Mercury albums when he turned country; Roy Orbison, some Rolling Stones, some odd-ball ones like Duane Eddy, a Dion & the Belmonts collector set. Also have BB King's Alive & Well, some Moody Blues, several Creedence...you get the idea.
i was born 1966 but i feel that i was supposed to be born a decade earlier to enjoy the late 60's and 70's revolution! the music was real, our emotions and actions as a country were real! we need that passion back in family, song & love!

I don't consider myself to be "intelligensia", but the Monkees did a disservice to musicians, singing and - most of all - sex.
Grass Roots! Loved them...3 Dog Night, The Beach Boys and the early years of the Stones.
...happened to be in a music store several yrs ago and a CD caught my eye: 3 Dog Night with the London Philharmonic [I think it was]... glad I bought it!...great to hear some of their old songs --with Cory Wells, Danny Hutton, the original guitarist and keyboardist--re-done with the added 'uuumph' of an orchestra--similar to Moodies at Red Rocks.
