Must we suffer so that we are driven to awaken to its source?
Is life a process of suffering propelled by ego’s futile search for enlightenment and immortality? You are driven to greatness for the reason that you correctly intuit your essential Oneness, therefore your valiant efforts towards sacredness should not be discouraged. But, to guarantee your success in awakening wisdom within, you must ensure that hidden habituation is not enthroned as the charismatic director of your spiritual destiny. Perhaps the single greatest discovery of courageous spiritual seekers, many of who are convinced that they are making progress on the path, is the extent to which concealed conditioning is directing their search away from contentment. And, despite a mind-boggling selection of therapies and personal improvement programs, and practices, something is gravely amiss: evidence of simple ease and fulfillment. By evidence I mean not sterile statistics, but the joyful effervescence of complete aliveness. Still the struggles persist and the crowd just gets older, and those who were not born when you started on your quest now fill the front rows of the lecture halls in wide-eyed anticipation. If unconsciousness is plucking the heartstrings of your desire to awaken, unnecessary suffering will be rife and impossible to escape. As you strive to uncover the Buddha within, pause a moment and ask: Would I bequeath my current state of spiritual health upon my children?
