What did the Native Americans mean by, "Walk in Balance"

Neeraja, I have studied a bit about Native American Spiritualities, and will therefore, only offer a thought on this idea. Some Native Americans believe that when we take something from our earth, we are also to give something back.; thereby, maintaining balance with nature. I remember reading, for example, that if one takes a flower from the ground, one must plant another.
This philosophy could also be seen as a metaphor for all of life, and sort of echoes the Beatle's lyrics from their White album, after they had studied with the Maharaji Mahish Yogi, in which they sang,
"And in the end, the love you take, is equal to the love you make."
Hi neeraja & southerbl, I too have read some of Native American way of life. What little I have learned about it, I really appreciate. I find it is full of 'common sense', and down to earth.
I think what is meant by "Walk in Balance" is that everyone and everything is valuable, nothing is to be wasted, all is to be treated with respect.
Take care, Deb
Deb, here is a quote from Black elk that I want to share. he said, "All land is holy land". Your comment reminded me of his statement. Also, traditional Native stories and teachings have a very different concept of good and bad. Things and actions werent seen as 'good' or 'bad', rather it was a question of whether something or an action was in balance, or in harmony with its surroundings or natural order.

Thanks, neeraja and Deb,for your insights on some Native American spritual beliefs. I've also read that they revere, honor, and respect the earth, and all living creatures, and the spirits that dwell in all.
Which particular group are you referring? Coming from my view walking in balance means, mentally-spiritually-physically.
I like all the preceding thoughts and concepts. How could one go wrong, I mean be Unbalanced adhering to those principles?? Mikey!!

Hi DaleR, Welcome to the group! I posed the question as a general one which could include the teachings of any North American First Nations group, or perhaps any 'earth based' group. The main intent in asking this question is to see how people here feel about spirituality in relation to living out our lives here on mother earth, that is, bringing all aspects of being a conscious human being and living here on the earth into spiritual and physical considerations, rather than just perceiving spirituality and consciousness as purely mental or an 'out-of-body' experience.
