Ok, all joking aside you make an excellent point Kenny and we do tend to neglect the small things that all add up to a heck of a lot of waste. We're a very wasteful society in general primarily because we're spoiled by our own relative wealth.

When I traveled to Lagos a few years ago to work for a couple of weeks it really hit home just how fortunate we are and how much we take for granted.

So yeah, I'll try to pay more attention to the small stuff and thanks for the reminder.

PS: It wouldn't hurt to junk the Hummer too though. Just a thought since I still see land barges outnumbering cars 4 to 1 every day when I pick up my son from school. I know everyone justifies it by saying 'but it's not safe to have a small car when everyone else is driving a barge'. Well, maybe not but we gotta start somewhere.

It's my job to find oil and I'll be happy to keep doing that as long as we all insist on guzzling it but do me a favor ok? I drive a small car so don't run me down in your barges while sucking down all that oil I'm finding ok? Ya'll need me just like the crackhead needs his dope dealer.

Better yet, go put me on the unemployment line. I'm good with that.

Geez, Now I know I will never be able to look at another Hummer without thinking of it as a "barge'! LOL

Consider also that being 'green' is simply another aspect of our conditioning. Now, don't get me wrong, my wife and I shut down our heating during the day (we work at home) and for 6 hours overnight (which save 30% of our gas consumption) but, while each person doing their bit really helps, the trend in massive consumption is heading directly upwards. This, of course, is being driven by our (your) need for personal comfort. How are you taking responsibility for that? Sure, it feels good to turn off your computer, but...

For instance: A tunnel is being dug under parts of Barcelona so that the high-speed TGV train can connect to Paris. The machine that digs the tunnel consumes as much power in one day as 200 people do in a year!

And as far as Neerj and Gator are concerned, it's good to see us laughing. Has to be something spirtual in that little gift we have. In the end Mick the tunnel may be a good thing. (don't know, just surmising) When it's done it may take a lot of cars off the road that spew pollutants into the air and may consume less energy when the cars are totaled up. Not much of an authority on this one. Can't do much on my own about the tunnel but for us smaller fish it kind of comes down to are we going to be part of the problem or part of the solution. If enough of us make the attempt maybe it will spread...sure no harm in trying...the worst that can happen is we'll have a smaller utilty bill.

How can anyone be responsible for the consumption of natural resources by the masses? That's an excellent question!

Wouldn't it require the masses to evolve spiritually enough to care? Since laws aren't effective and depleting a resource seems to be the only way to keep the masses from consuming it...

Thank you for the info on 'unplugging'. My daughter pointed that out to me last year and my evolved response was, "Well, duh!" Kind of a hassle every time I want to listen to the stereo, but these days it may be the only exercise I get for the day ;-). Peace

I think this is an excellent question for our group. I think a person could use something like this as a practical practice in Focus. It would also bring an ongoing awareness and attention of gratitude and respect to our Mother the Earth; and also help us to become aware of how many electrical gadgets we are consistently using....
