Does Oprah Winfrey really need TBD to promote another one of her spinoffs?

I have heard some unpleasant things about this book. That it goes against what the Bible says about heaven and hell. Also there was no need for JESUS dying on the cross. etc. Has any one heard anything like this??

I could be wrong. Just asking.

I'm not reading anything that Oprah recommends on her TV show. She has made four of Toni Morrison's "B" novels best sellers. And tho she (Morrison) has won a Nobel Prize, she is still a pedestrian writer. So much for what the Nobel stands for nowadays.

Let's be honest--what Oprah does-that is--her talent--is SELLING. And what she is really trying to sell now is the next prez. of the U.S.A. I'm not buying.

A New Earth sounds like a new P.C. view of what the Earth should be according to THEM.

I read this book right after its publication a few years ago. While you have to love Tolle's style, intention, and doubtless ability to transmit his wonderful non-dual awareness, its premise is somewhat unevolved. Overall, this work, and others that suggest that the solution to all our problems is to maintain a focus on the present moment or the'Now' are serious flawed and are actually doing more damage that good. The 'cure' is worse than the disease of narcissism which is creating the problems we see in the world today.

I have seen Tolle live and once in a talk of 2 hours, during which the entire audience was 'high' in the 'now', he never once mentioned the words 'change' or 'responsibility'... Again, please don't get me wrong, it is not that I doubt the purity of his intentions, but it is easy to get lost in the bliss of the 'now' while the rest of the world is falling apart.

If you are interested in what I mean by 'unevolved', please consult the integral framework of Ken Wilber only one of which is the subjective.

Perhaps this book does not go against the Bible, but instead offers a perspective that goes against the part of you that is convinced that the Bible can offer you immortality.

Good point. Oprah means well of course... but you know the words in the big book... "when the blind lead the blind...", well, we all know what happens...

I am an open person who likes to explore ideas, cultures and different points of view. So I respect your point of views here, even if I don't necessarily agree with all of them. Thank you for taking the time to comment.
