My son and I have been recently able to reconnect. He is currently in a veterans group home, and is receiving some medical assistance in the area; however it is not at a VA hospital. I am concerned that the care he is getting is inappropriate. I visited with him during the past Thanksgiving holiday, and he seemed to be suffering from chronic fatigue. He really couldn't spend much more than an hour at a time with me before he would become very tired, and need to go back to the house to rest.
He was notified at Christmas that he would be receiving financial benefits through the Army, however he was informed that they would be non-service related. I am stumped, as he is not a substance abuser, and as far as I know (which is little, since I had not seen him for many years) he has no character flaws that would affect him negatively. I am wondering if he isn't suffering from a Gulf War Illness, as he was involved in the Army at that time. He does say that he carried a missle firer (whatever that is). I am wondering if anyone in this group would have any ideas or suggestions to relate back to me concerning anything you might know about Gulf War Illnesses? Hope to hear from you.
I probably should add that I use the public library computers, so check my email only about twice a week.
