Hi my name is Elaine, but most people call me tootles after "the Little Engine That Could". I would like input. Years ago when I was in college I saw someting similar to what I recenlty talked to my vet about. A home for felines to live out their natural life when their family passes and there is no responsible human to take them. Being a pet owner most of my life one of the things that had concerned me was should something happen to me, since I was single, where would my children go. Fortunately, my children have a Godmother, my first cousin, that loves animals as much as I do. Over the years I have done a lot of volunteer work and discovered that humane societies and other facilities are so overpopulated that millions of animals are killed each year. The facilities that are no-kill are so over burdened that they are having trouble taking in new animals.
What we are proposing to start is a permanent home for felines where pets have pre-arraged agreements with us to come and live out their natural life. We want it to be just like home where they are free to roam the house and buildings, even a certain portion outside that will be totally enclosed except the sky. It will be largely volunteer, but will have permanent onsite managers incl. vetaranarians. We are in the beginining stages of finding land and funding. We want to be able to take pets requardless of their helath problems and want to be able to set up scholarships for indigent pet owners to make sure their loved ones are not left out. We intend to separate the cats only by age, illnesses andpets that need special care.Non will be in a kennel.
I would appreciate any ideas, suggestions, thoughts criticisms. We don't want to o verlook or leave anything out. We decided to only do cats as we both are Huge cat lovers. I recently lot my little boy that I had for almost 19 years to cancer. I handraised him from the day he was born and he never knew he was anything except my little boy. I still cry just at the littliest things that remind me of him.As my vet told me "he was the perfect little gentleman, he loved everybody, but he knew who was momma". I have had cats for over 30 years of my life as has my vet and we are really excited about our future venture.
