I have 6 cats.They all came to me as stray kittens. ( God obviously felt that I just didn't have enough to do ) They are all very quiet cats . About the only time they make a sound is when the want food. ( food is always available but they want the canned food at every meal of the day )They are healthy and as active as they care to be, they just don't meow.

Must say I can't recall anything sounding human. But my little girl "trills", my guy rarely says a word. In fact he'll often open his mouth as if he's going say something and nothing comes out. He's done this since kittenhood. The old girl, talks a lot. She'll have and entire conversation with you as long as you keep talking to her. As for what she is sayng??? Haven't got a clue.

quiet cats! what a concept! i have 1 quiet cat. out of 8. and he is pushy, and big. making up for being quiet, i guess.

matthew does the silent meow thing too, like you describe. he also says 'egg' when i peel a hardboiled egg and he wants a piece of it.

his brother nick meows all the time. 'wah'. that's it. same note, same tone, regardless of the situation.

Have 2 cats puuuuuuuuuuuuurrfect and run the house and confuse the dog.

The funny word my one cat does is WOWEM

Meowing backwards! especially if there is a dogie mistake some where in the house.

with these pets I'm blessed with in my experience there is always some mysterious smells or that something I cannot quit put my nose to. I suspect they know more than I at times.

Body language is used as well EX: when one is wrapped around my neck and the other around my head In a yin yang positin when I wake up (I think they are informing me gently they are cold and thinking "Hey did she pay the gas bill? or reminding me to put some pellets in the wood stove)!

Then there is the pouncing off the shelves if the food is not ready. Or punscing on my body. And of course the pooping outside of the litter box means (um excuse me. WOEM!!!!! but there is an old poop in my excretion box and I deserve a clean area to do my business)! LOL

and of course there is the coooooooooing and the purrrrrrring that never fails to put me back to sleep in the morning or helps my calmness and brings a gentle warming to my being.

She has different variations of it. The happy meow, the feed me meow, the wake up meow. a few others. She is a meowing machine!
