I think the most common misunderstanding is just what you are asking. Perimenopause includes all the symptoms you think of when we say menopause. Menopause simply means that you haven't had a period for a year.

So, absolutely yes to night sweats!

Problem is that I don't know how long I haven't had a period. I had a hysterectomy done about 8 years ago. Thanks so much for replying. I don't know how else to tell if I'm in menopause or not. My doctor did some blood test. I need to get an appointment to go over the tests. I'll get that appointment for this coming week and get active on this whole thing.

Hi Carolyn, I also had a hysterectomy years ago and was surprised when the symptoms began. The blood test your doctor did will tell you for sure what stage you are in and your doctor will be able to explain what you should expect going forward. Everyone is different but for me the night sweats were the worst but my husband would probably say it was my mood swings. Good luck and let us know how the appointment goes.
