According to Doctor Pamela Peeke, author of 'Body for Life for Women'...
Pamela Peeke: After the age of 35 or so, it's all about the tummy--- for men and women. For women, it's a particular problem since during the perimenopause and menopause time in life it's easier to accumulate fat both inside the tummy under the ab muscle (what I call Toxic Fat) and on top of the ab muscle, something I call the Menopot in women. Your goal is to minimize your Menopot. You do this by following a lifestyle blueprint which I call Mind Mouth and Muscle in my book. First you get your target motivation which will help hold your focus. Next you have to eat a a balance of Smart Foods (protein, carb, fat) roughly every 3-4 hours, through dinner. And a problem with women over 40 is that they are still eating too much food. Be very mindful of potions sizes here. Finally, women 50 and over need to be doing at least 60% aerobic activity (walk at least 30 minutes per day) and strength train twice per week. To get that tummy under control you need to have this combination of physical activity and mindful eating. Many women do one or the other. You need both. That Menopot is not supposed to completely disappear. But you can minimize it.
