Miserable--that is what a yeast infection is! I don't know about yeast infections being a menopause thing--the one I had was before I ever heard of menopause!

Being on antibiotics can cause yeast infections. You mentioned a new relationship--yeast infections can also be sexually transmitted if a person has had sexual relations with a person who had a yeast infection. I don't know if men actually get them but they can spread them!

IF the over-the-counter treatments are not working, you may need to see a doctor. The doctor can do a culture to see exactly what type it is and prescribe the right treatement.

Asidophilus is very good for both Yeast Infections and Vaginitis. Unfortunately, you won't see the affects for a while.

Yeast infections are very common with some woman, particularly myself, and Antibiotics are quick to give you one.

Two years, I went through a bout with recurring yeast infections. It became so chronic, the doctor just gave me a supply of Fluconazole.

I later discovered that it was the Lavendar soap that I used that caused the problem. Once I stopped using it, haven't had anymore.

I wouldn't be too concerned. If over-the-counter doesn't help, see a doctor. If it becomes a recurring problem, it's likely something you're taking, eating or using that causing it.

My wife & I met in our early 30's. We spent several years passing yeast infections back and forth between her vagina and my foreskin. following is more info than maybe you wanna know, but...at age 39, because of this, I was circumcised. the result? I had a "new and different toy" and the yeast infections lessened and stopped. I think there's more to it, but I'm not sure - we've been through a lot since then, and that's at least 3 other threads. Settled down now :-)

I'm happy to report, the Monistat, acidolphilus, calcium, magnesium and vitamin D is working and I've been symptom free for a few days now. Whew! That was not fun. Thanks for the support and honesty.

That's very interesting. To be a female, and at age 50, I just never knew yeast infections could be passed back/forth.

I wonder, then, if it would make sense for the doctor to treat both when the yeast infection occurs?

Eltee asks if it makes sense to treat both partners. Yes. If condoms are not being used there is no sense in treating just one person since this infection (and many others) can ping pong back and forth.

Suggest he use a condom for a while if you suspect this is the case, if you're not already using them.

FYI...

I read that only one in four women who think they have persistent yeast infections actually do. Culprits include contact vulvitis, inflammation of the vulva caused by perfumes and chemicals in tampons, pads, soaps; and lichen sclerosis (skin disorder). Both conditions cause itching resembling yeast infections. Neither respond to antifungals.
