What is your diet like? Take by mouth omega-3 supplements or fish oil that is known to help.

Robin - I had been wearing contacts since I was 15 and never had any problems until last year. I started getting eye infections and my eyes would be so bloodshot, it looked as if I had been out all night partying! After many visits to the eye doctor and trying different contacts and not wearing them for awhile, my eye doctor finally concluded that due to hormonal changes, my eyes were very dry and the contacts were making it worse. So I tried putting eye drops in my eyes during the day, tried the Omega-3, nothing helped. I finally got tired of having problems and had Lasik surgery and it was the BEST decision I have ever made! There was no way that i was going to start wearing glasses! Think about having Lasik, I have been very happy with the results!

This is a great outcome for you. I had Lasik, too, when I couldn't wear contacts any more.

I will tell a different story, too, to counterbalance. My sister had the surgery and, due to dry eye that was not discovered until afterwards in the healing, did not have a great result. She needs drops nightly and the surgery did not heal well in either eye. It took an additional one to try to correct the first process.

So caution may be indicated if the problem already exists.

Otter -- Sorry to hear your sister did not have a good outcome. Lasik will cause your eyes to be dry, which I noticed the first couple of months, then it eased off. I still put drops in my eyes in the morning, but usually don't have any problems during the day.

I think complications are pretty rare and it's unfortunate that your sister is having problems. I think it's an amazing procedure and would highly recommend it to anyone. I was VERY near-sighted before and it's truly been a blessing to me. I would recommend to anyone considering Lasik to thoroughly check out the facility and physician before having the procedure done. I was VERY nervous about having it done, but was willing to take the risk. As with any medical procedure, there can be complications. I hope everything works out for your sister.
