Besides finding herbal and other remedies, I learned to tell my family "I am very cranky (pissed off, depressed, whatever), so I am going to try to be very quiet and stay out of your way (and I would try to isolate as much as I could) and don't take it personally - this is about my mood and not you."

It really helped.

I knew yesterday when I got a killer headache that it was going to be a bad day. Today I'm feeling better, but it's the mood swings that get me. Sometimes I don't even recognize myself!

My question: is the moodiness and general highly cranky disposition toward men in menopause similar to those mysterious moods of PMS?

In other words, is menopause like a 5 year long unremitting PMS?

Yes and no. There is still an ebb and flow in moods, but it can be more extreme in perimenopause and menopause.

It is also very individual - some experience it and some don't, there is a continuum, etc., as in any other syndrome that affects human beings.
