Sometimes I struggle with pricing my work. I have had the experience when I raised the price of a piece, it has sold, and the piece was worth it. Its important not to sell yourself short. In order to sell your work at a higher price you have to know in your heart that its worth the asking price and more. I often think a long time about how to price my art, other times, the price of a piece comes to me instantly. I take into consideration the venue where I will be showing and will ask a gallery or museum manager if they have the clientle coming in which would purchase a piece of that expense. If its a yes!, great, if not, and I still want to sell my art with them, I will either make a piece to suit them, or not show there at all. Pricing is a art in and of itself, because if the price does not fit the venue, if its priced to low, or too high, bottom line, the work wont sell. Its funny, because now that I think about it, after I price a piece, until it sells, I often say to myself....is this to high?, to low? More often or not, if a piece doesnt sell right away, I will confidently raise my asking price. I realize that after being able to look at it for awhile, its worth more! It always sells.

i know that i would continue to sculpt whether or not i ever sold another piece. it's just something i MUST do, you know?

Actually, I do have a few things that do not sell, but I was told by an elder artist friend of mine, dont worry, because you wont always be able to do what you do now, and then you will have something to sell later. But I must admit, Ive have been lucky and I cross my fingers that I will continue to be so...At some point I will change my name at Tbd to my real name. Im just now becoming technically updated. I do not have a website yet and its in the works. My work is three dimensional so good photography is essential. Ive literally made over a hundred pieces that I have not documented and given away. Its only within the last few years that I have been documenting my work. My career has evolved very organically and Im just now looking at developing in the fine art world. I am looking forward to it, but I have been a technophobe. This group has been great about getting more use to the internet. I only started emailing a couple of years ago. I have been enjoying my anomininity for now......but that is changing.....Do you have a website or pictures. The first time I have ever uploaded a photo was here at TBD. BTW, If your work is good and you get a good response, even if you don't sell now, "upping" the prices is a good selling idea. Especially if you want to produce more. Try to have a range of prices so you can appeal to a wider audience and keep trying to 'get yourself out there'! Its good to have a few less expensive pieces for sale too!

Also feel free to post a pic of your work anytime in our group if you feel its appropriate! I really enjoyed seeing your work and by having the site on your profile your other friends will be able to see it as well. I also liked the statue "Jesus". I can imagine how amazing it is in bronze. I know of a woman who does bronze sculpture and a few of her lifesize pieces cost as much as a million dollars, but she doesnt sell her work. I dont know if she prices them that high so people wont buy them or what! Also I think that we have different trend times where some types of art are more popular than others. Bronze sculpture is not a medium of interest that will go away, Im sure you will be selling more! I promise I will have a few pictures up soon. Does a bronze sculpture take a long time to do? How long did a piece like "Tutu" take you to do? thank you

Hi cinder, I was listening to an artist talk about bronze sculpture. He was saying that it lasts forever! How wonderful! If my work was not properly cared for, it would not endure. Working with bronze must have a particular amzing quality to it for that reason alone!

I try and make $10 to $20 an hour... so when I get done with a peice I try and calculate how long it took me to produce and go from there... I like simplicity. If there are "extras" like stands, or frames, etc... the price is adjusted.
