Hi Mary,
Good question. To me creativity is the idea and thought energy that allows me to express myself from my own perspective. It is a point of view that is unique to me, but not perhaps alien to others. The ability to show a concept or an idea in a way that steps out from the mundane or simplest perspective.
Whether it is in art or writing or problem solving, creativity is imagination revealed!
Cheers! Have an excellent day!

Sometimes it's drawing. Sometimes guitar. Sometimes knitting. Sometimes crocheting. Sometimes writing. Sometimes cooking.
The last time it was last week when I made a tunic. I decided that I didn't want the sleeve that came with the pattern. So, I found a sleeve I liked better on another pattern, and between the two pieces, I drew the second sleeve adjusted to fit the shoulder of the first tunic.
Creativity - So many things to so many people; so many things to the same person. Depends on my mood, what I'm doing, etc.
The process for me is usually very spontaneous when it comes to a new political cartoon. An event will happen, I'll hear a speech, I'll become agitated by something. My "brain" makes incredible connections - some subtle, some obvious, some - where the hell did...? All of a sudden an image will come into mind and "Eureka". Sometimes I'll tweak it once I have the basic idea but usally it just comes all at once. This process seems to happen "energetically with a lot of thoughts popping".
When I'm in session with someone I usually maintain a hypnotic/meditative state and just BE with the person. My supervisor told me, "Two ears, one mouth Jack." When I reflect back what I'm hearing (Carl Rogers) it helps the client to "see" what his words and feelings look like. If I didn't "hear" something correctly I get clarification. When I do make a suggestion it's in their words, style, etc. and I always have in mind what I think is best for them. Just last week a client said, "I've had a lot of therapists but you are different; I like the way you say things." NO, I don't hit many home runs but when I do it's because I'm in the moment, connected. The same brain pathways that allow me to think up a cartoon that says 1,000 words also is there to help me communicate with a client.
Writing this has helped me in some way. My own therapist sprayed a mouthful of coffee once when I talked about "My thoughts become feelings." We laugh about that a lot but I'm still not sure why he thinks it's so funny. LOL :)
Rollo May says it best: "Creativity is the process of bringing something new into being...creativity requires passion and commitment. Out of the creative act is born symbols and myths. It brings to our awareness what was previously hidden and points to new life. The experience is one of heightened consciousness–ecstasy."
To me creativity is opening your mind to hear what's inside your heart and just putting it out there; not caring what anybody else thinks.
Off course, it's a full moon tonight and I have no idea what I'm talking about.
Hi Adelight, sounds great to me!
I think creativity is the ability to put two disparate or unexpected elements together in a meaningful way.
