Let's share a little about ourselves and our creative outlets.
What is your preferred area(s)? For fun or profit (or both).
What are your goals for your art?
What do you see as your biggest challenges to getting there?
Do you belong to any professional or amateur societies or clubs that are designed to help you meet your artistic needs?
I'll go first to get things started...
I am a graphic artist (working in advertising). I am also a painter. I work in acrylic on canvas, and water color on paper. I have also studied ancient (medieval) art in depth at college, and Eastern brush technique after college. My favorite style of painting is non-objective (aka non-subjective) art where you throw the paint and get very physical with the canvas and paint. I find it freeing, and extremely expressive.
My goal is to become a fine artist FIRST, then back it up with my graphics talent. This is my current challenge and task. My biggest challenge is getting past myself, and getting past having an "education" about art (hmmm).
I am currently exhibiting my artwork for the first time (Jan 08) publicly since the 1980s. I am the featured artist at a local gallery this month. My Open House event was last weekend. It snowed like crazy but the place was still packed. We had a ball (especially ME).
I plan to hang more work when this show is complete, and venture into other markets next month too. I am getting good reviews. Now peeps just need to start buying.....
In December, I completed course work based on "The Artist's Way". For more info on that book and study, please google it. I am also joining professional arts group(s) in my area, being very picky about which one(s) I associate with. There needs to be a measurable asset (gallery space available free or cheap, exhibits, forums, study, discounts on supplies or something) for me to join. I also have a continuing study partnership with other artists of varying backgrounds, abilities and specialties.
Ultimately, I am trying to balance my need to create with my need to pay my bills, and THRIVE. I would love to spend the next 30 years painting instead of sitting in front of this machine....
Now please tell us about You!!!
