yes I also changed my career recently I now am A Sales Manager love it I make my own hours take care of my clients the way I feel needed. I am a independent ( which of corse in the start the money can be rough but I am in complete control and no office politics

Hi Mr. Sells, There are several things that I would suggest. There are some great books that help you identify the right career for you. Working in a stationary place, doing the same thing over and over would be difficult for most people. Unfortunately, people tend to choose a career by way of accident and current circumstances instead of really planning a career. 38 is young. You have plenty of career life ahead.

Don't be afraid to explore other areas outside of work for additional career opportunities. There are thousands of things that you can do at home that might help you earn your life back to where you can do them full time and no longer need a job. Thousands of people have done this. Keep your mind open and explore some of these. If you would like more specific information, let me know, but that is not my purpose here. I feel your pain. Don't just stay where you don't want to be- that comes with tremendous regret later on.

I did the same thing after about 17 years in the corporate world. Do what you love. This is really important.

You are good at dealing with people and love to talk so look for career opportunities that allow you to do this. Further refine your search by looking at the long term viability of the field(s) that you have identified.

Start networking if you haven't already begun to do so. Consider volunteering your time at a non-profit so they can benefit from your expertise and you can show what you're capable of.

You will probably come across interesting individuals while working as a claims professional. Use your time there to develop relationships with those that you respect and feel can help you make a move into a different career.

Life is too short to be miserable - make the change but do it strategically.
