what with year-end evaluations, bonus announcements and salary adjustments, this is in fact a good time to take stock and make changes. this year i will go into my meetings prepared with a list of what i managed to accomplish, how i think i performed and what i would like to set in the way of objectives for 2008. in the past, i often let my bosses lead these meetings; i have been very well treated, but now i think that even when it seems there's no time, i have to take the time to give myself a personal performance review.

I love your approach of giving yourself a review. I especially like the idea of listing out all the things you accomplished in 2007. Often times a boss may not be totally aware of such activities, particularly the work you accomplished over-and-above your normal work. Did you keep a log of your accomplishments throughout the year?

gordon, in reply to your reply -- i review my office diary and emails for highlights (and lowlights). i make a list of wins and disappointments. above all, i formulate some ideas for what i would like to do next. last year, for example, i asked for more involvement in new biz pitches. this year... well, i think i will keep that as a surprise!
