Backing Bukowski
Los Angeles - The owner of a Los Angeles bungalow court that was once home to poet Charles Bukowski has been stopped from doing unpermitted work on the historically protected buildings.
The City Council voted in February to give landmark status to the east Hollywood bungalow court, where Bukowski lived from 1963 to 1972. The designation requires the owner to get special approval to make alterations.
In case anyone wonders about my nom de TeeBeeDee, I am an admirer of Mr. Bukowski's work, but as much or more so of his work ethic. Rampant alcoholism and other self-destructive predilections aside, Bukowski got down to the business of writing just about every day. He simply sat and did - in whatever setting or circumstances were at hand - what many writers (self included) spend far too much time gassing about rather than doing: he wrote.
Cheers, Chuck...I'm toasting you tonight.
