Dear colleagues,
Please forgive my temporary absence as a contributor to this, my favorite neighborhood and that which has continued to sustain, enrich, surprise, delight and amuse me. I hope to bring my current schedule into balance soon, and return to active duty.
In the meanwhile want to amplify a bit of lit news (many of you may already be aware): the nation's new Poet Laureate (the sixteenth since the honor was created) has been announced: Kay Ryan, a fellow Northern Californian who has the humility of a saint but one whose feet are firmly planted on this earth. Her verse emits a wonderful practicality while still glowing with magic. To fend the wolf from her door Ms. Ryan has for decades taught remedial English at College of Marin.
