I listened to a guy on PBS Radio once (in the 80's also) talk about him and I though he was joking. NOT!

True Performer with serious writing skills.

I'm not a rocker, but I do know he is a really good musician - plays alot of instruments, and has a funky sound which sparked my curiosity.

Thanks Whozzo and Swiss for answering. I always enjoyed his music but never took him serious and realized he played so many instruments until Purple Rain came out. I have had great respect for his abilities ever since.

I say him on tv throw his telecaster from the playing position straight into the rafters and it stayed perfectly horizontal the whole way up. It was a perfect toss. lol

And to think there had to be some stage hand up there ready to catch it. Nervous as hell to be sure.

A former girlfriend nearly drove me insane

with "Purple Rain". She had to play it every time we were together. At one point I could recite the lyrics from the entire album.

And Whozzo's right. The stagehand up in the rafters was probably nervous as hell when that guitar came up. I sure as hell would be

if I were in that position. I probably would have caught it with one of those "forceflex" trash bags just to be safe.

Gotta say that the Purple One is a fav of mine. He's a brilliant musician (on many instruments) and a great song-writer.

However ... an "actor" he is NOT (Purple Rain ... ugh!). LOL

One of my favorite Prince tunes is "Sign of the Times" ... very funky groove and great lyrics.

The actual performances in the movie were good. However, I believe The Time stole the show. I recently saw The Time perform on Leno and they still got the grooves and the moves...and oh yes, he still feigns combing his hair in the mirror that his homeboy holds in front of him. Icing on the cake!!!
