Hi Michael,

I'm new here and wanted to introduce myself. I have been playing keyboards since age 3, writing musicals and songs since high school and did a little recording way back in 1971. I was Music Arranger for USAF Bands 1973-77 and was Composer-in-Residence for Middle TN State University Theatre Dept 1997-2000 while I was getting my Masters in Music Composition. I haven't been as fortunate as many as even with a lot of talent and creativity, I never made any real connections to do Film/TV like I always dreamed. Now-a-days my full time job is as a 4th grade teacher in Hawaii public schools. The scenery is certainly inspiring but the record label here (Mountain-Apple) only signs on people who do Old-Time Hawaiian music....oh well..maybe someday I'll make some connections. Hi Charlie - I have a friend that lives on Kauai that is very active in the island music scene. His name is Ned Selfe, he's primarily a pedal steel player but not in the Nashville style you would expect. Google him. Maybe you cats are simpatico.

Music is a big deal in our household. My wife, our two sons, and I sing four part harmony as long as its not SATB. Older son (15 years) has a gorgeous tenor voice and plays trombone. Younger son (almost 13) is just slipping from alto to tenor and plays trumpet. He also has a natural ear for harmony. My wife sings alto and is an incredible scottish fiddler. I'm the profligate one singing bass, baritone, or tenor, and playing bass guitar, hammer dulcimer, and appalachian dulcimer. I also dabble with the bodhran (celtic frame drum), bones, and six-string guitar.

My influences on bass are Lee Sklar & Donald "Duck" Dunn. I can listen to James Taylor & Mary Chapin Carpenter all day long. And I also have an iPod playlist loaded with organ riffs and horn sections.

That sounds fantastic CarterGC. I also played trombone in my school days. I play mostly guitar and banjo and although I own both a hammered and lap dulcimer I can't in good conscience claim to play them well. I love Scottish music. I dabble in that on my violin. I wish I had someone like your wife nearby for lessons.

Glad to have you in the group. It's been a quiet bunch so far. I need to come here more often to check the discussions.
