What motivates you to complete a project?

I started knitting a baby blanket for a friend back in February, but it sat half finished, untouched for days on end. I saw her two weeks ago and OMFG she is about to pop. Her doctors do not think she'll make her July 26th due date. So now on a mission, I knitted furiously, finished it, blocked it, wrapped and boxed it. I'm delivering it today.

Now if I can finish this sweater that's I started a year ago(!)...

What does it take to make you pick up that lonely project and finish it?

For me, sometimes it's takes what you said... pressure!... when the "pressure is ON!" I can perform! lol.

When I'm on a mission to complete a project, I put some good 80's music on and don't stop until I am done! :-)

Please post pictures of the blanket when you're done so we can all see it!

Duh, I forgot to take a picture. I delivered it on Friday and she loved it. I'll see if I can get one when the baby's wrapped in it.

The project was from the first Stich 'n Bitch book. I love that series. I went for some beautiful merino wool (a bit pricey but she's worth it) and used the simple pattern: two big blocks of knit and two of purl with a seed stitch border. Really shows off of the yarn.

Next project will be a first for me: fingerless gloves.They have a bit of a finger to keep them from sliding. I'm hoping since it's a small project, I won't need pressure to finish them. ;-)

I think your right...Dahlfase about being under pressure to finish a project...I've always wanted to finish one project before I started a new one....I have at least 3 going at the same time..Ladies in my Needlecraft class tell me it's normal...Iam normal...lol...

LOL. I finished a baby blanket in last November for a baby born in October. Thing was that the blanket was originally intended for his brother born 20 months earlier! I tried to avoid that situation with this latest project.

BTW...Baby Bob was born two weeks after gave his mother his blanket. Darn, I had two more weeks. ;-)

I've joined a knitting group @ work. There are about 5 of us that meet during lunch 1 day/week. We share projects, teach each other new stitches and motivate each other to keep pluggin' along on our projects.

The group started a couple of months ago, simply by someone putting up a flyer inviting any one interested in stitchery to meet during lunch once a week.

Not only have I met new people at work, but I have found an outlet for my creative energies (which I had been ignoring).

I highly recommend the idea!

Embarrassment is often my motivator.....my husband asks if I've finished something yet that I spent what he considered to be too much money on for yarn & that's a good nudge! Do have the second of a pair of socks that I started 3 years ago out of bits & pieces of sock yarn to finish though..........someday!
