Eek. I've started a group.
My own outlets are pretty simple - like so many of you here, I write for my own pleasure. I also harbor the fantasy of writing a novel, but that probably takes more discipline than I have, plus it would take time away from other things.
My major one these days is fiber arts. I started out teaching myself how to knit a few years ago, and then about two years ago I got the itch to learn how to spin. So I took a class, came home with a wheel and a couple of pounds of fiber, and I've been spinning ever since. When asked "What are going to make out of that yarn?" my answer has been "A big pile of yarn" - because I'm so enchanted with the process of spinning that my knitting output is WAY down.
The other major one is singing. I sing with a major chorus in Milwaukee WI, and I've been studying voice now for almost ten years. I think it's barely possible we're finally making some progress...! I'm a decent church soloist, but I decided this year that I should try actually singing in public. So in October I found myself singing jazz standards at a local bar's open mic night. You know the adage about "Doing the thing that scares you?" Singing live in front of a non-church audience was just about as scary as I could stand.
So what's YOUR outlet?
