Is that photo of the yarn some that you spun yourself? It is beautiful!

It is... I found a supplier of sublimely beautiful handpainted merino wool, and I've been spinning her fiber now for almost a year. Every time I spin up a batch of it, I think, "Okay, THIS is the one that I'm going to knit into something." And then I open up my fiber chest and say "OOOOH! Look at all the pretty colors!" and I'm off and spinning again.

The 70s. Earth, Wind and Fire, Commodores, Donna Summer (Last Dance), Saturday Night Fever. Or as they call it "that horrible disco" period. That's when I first started dancing.

Then I loved learning the polka, folk dancing classes, Jazzercise, dancing at clubs, line dancing, latin dancing, now of course Zumba.

There has always been some fun dancing.

Katherine, I don't have an artsy bone in my body but ended up surrounded by women who loved fiber arts, wearable art, you name it. We raised a lot of money for charity via wearable art.

I loved (actually, STILL love) that horrible disco music. I have Donna Summer on CD. I listened to the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack on Wednesday, driving back after dropping my son off at college.

Did anyone else notice that some of the "club" and "house" music sounded a whole lot like the much-derided disco of the late 70s?

Yes, Katherine, I had noticed the similarities in the music and actually listen to some house music. The yarn you spin is beautiful. It is an art I have always had interest in and never tried. I took up crochet, needlepoint, and cross-stitch in much the same way as you. Watching the fingers of the women of my youth fly through those fibers left an indelible print on my brain. I do some needlework every week, mostly when watching football!

I have some doilies embroideered by my grandmother that I treasure. She had beautiful hands until old age, when severe RA withered and sistorted her poor fingers.

Disco music is my workout soundtrack! The problem for me is that I have to avoid bursting into song, which is quite alarming to the other people at the gym.

I have been a visual artist all my life. I remember getting in trouble with my third-grade teacher because I colored a tree yellow instead of green. She sent home a note that I had done this deviant thing. My mother asked me "Why didn't you make the tree green?" It was sinply because I thought the yellow crayon was prettier...

Then my mother started buying me paint-by-number kits, and I learned how all those little dabs and smears of different colors turned into paintings.

My two brothers and younger sister are the same way.

At age 15, inspired by Elton John's drummer from a particular song I decided to start playing drums. During high school I tried out for a band that was around the block. After several songs and some beers, yes beers at 15 yrs of age, the leader of the band announced to me "you're in!". I was shocked. We practiced every day, rain, shine or snow. The following summer his parents hired a manager and we were gigging for money. I was thrown out the year after for refusal to play disco. After disco died, that band went away also. Some of the best times I ever had with some of the most unexplainable, female undivided attention, which was enjoyed tremendously. Long time ago now.
