What a cutie! His glasses look very cool!

Neither of my kids have glasses, but when I was teaching, several of my students over the years did, and no one teased them. In fact, I remember one student coming to school one Monday morning with glasses. I could tell she was nervous, so I kept any eye/ear out for how the other kids acted. She received all positive responses. "I like your glasses!" "They're pretty!" "Do they help you see better?"

I hope your little guy has the same experience. :)

Oh, THANK YOU! I hope so too. Actually (and I told Bennett about this) when I got my glasses in 2nd grade I had much the same reaction . . . even from the kids that normally picked on me mercilessly. One of the meanest guys in school was sitting next to me at the art table and said, "Those glasses look really nice on you". I literally fell off my chair. The falling off my chair got me more teasing than the glasses! ;0)

I did send his teacher an email letting her know about this particular event. I hope she'll also keep an eye/ear out. But I also need her to watch Bennett's behavior. He has a slight anxiety issue . . . and when he internalizes his anxiety he acts out in strange ways. So, if he starts acting out, then I know that this is bothering him more than he's letting on. She seems to be a great teacher, so I believe we'll be able to work well together to help Bennett through this. It shouldn't be a big deal . . . but I like to stay on top of things.

I got my 1st glasses when I was 2 -- In 1952 that was about as young as you would be to get glasses. Idea: If somebody makes fun of your little guy have him respond by saying "Why would you say something mean about me seeing better?" That should, at least, make them think twice before speaking next time. He does look good in his glasses!

How are things going so far?

So far so good. In fact, when they talked about it as a class first thin yesterday morning, two other kids that had glasses, but HADN'T been wearing them . . . took out their glasses and put them on. So it has turned out to be a real positive thing, so far. Thanks for checking in!

So happy to hear that things went well for your son. It can be quite traumatic when things dont go so well. It is good to have a teacher that backs us up. He really does look great in those glasses. You are a great mom. Good Luck!
