I've got a 2 1/2 year old son at home...I'm a single parent, his dad lives 3,000 miles away. Glad to be near my mom, though!

Yorker, I know from reading your previous posts that you are a very caring parent and I think your kids were lucky to have you as their primary caregiver for all that time. I'm sure that time made a great difference in their lives.

I have a 10 year old living at home who is the light of my life. He is a natural athlete and presently competes in 3 sports which keeps us busy, to say the least. He is a smart kid but unfortunately not extremely motivated in school so his grades, while good, are not stellar. If he just applied himself in school, he would be perfect, but can't we all say that about something?

My oldest daughter seemingly lost her mind at the age of 15, but I am happy to report that at the age of 26, she seems to have found it and we are on the way to creating a great friendship. And, my oldest son quit 2 jobs this year (one of which included housing, requiring a short time back at home with Mom), but has recently started his own business and is doing very well.

So, for today, I feel like a pretty successful parent myself.

I have two little boys, one just turned 7, the other is 4 1/2. They are the lights of my life and they have the most beautiful souls I've ever known.

I do have to say I worry quite a bit, because there will NEVER be another woman that I will think is good enough for either of them. ;0)

It's nice to see a man take responsibility in raising kids. I know all to well how intense it is. But I'm sure you do a great job. We all learn by trial and error. You always feel maybe you should have done something different, but it all works out in the end. I'm sure you do a wonderful job and the kids will remember how wonderful it was to have you around and take so much interest in them.

5, 7, 8, 20 (the au pair), 21 and 24. Not sure which are the "little" ones? We ain't the Brady Bunch but we have a lot of laughs and they all keep me young and give me grey hairs (mostly at the same time).

Mom's on a project in NL 3 days a week so I can relate somewhat Yorker... Just sang the little ones to sleep. Will never tire of that! Guess I qualify.

Hope old geezers can join in this group. Our kids are probably too old to be subjects of this discussion, but THEIR kids aren't. We're lucky to have both of our kids living here in town (and on the same side of town even) which is a rarity in this day and age. Anyway, we get to spend lots of time with the gang and even host "parent-free weekends" much to the delight of the kids and the amusement of the parents. Here's the gang, taking a break!
