This isn't a funny story, it's kinda serious.

About this time we're teaching Kindergarden kids

to read, and this is so hard to do when you have

to teach them their A,B,C's first, Parents just

because your kid can sing the whole alphabet

does not mean the know it. When I get the flash

cards out and ask them pick out the "a" for me

they can't do it. but they can sing it, if they don't

know what an "a" looks like or sounds like we

cannot teach them to read. sure we know they

are going to get confused with the "b" d" and "p"

the "q and the g" That's where it would be so nice

if the parents helped teach them at home with

flash cards, say the letter, than pick it out so the

know what the letter are and what they look like.

and this would also work with numbers, they can

count to 20 but (I don't mind them writing the numbers

backward) they just don't know what a "5 or 2" looks

like, by June it's expected they read 25 words per

minute, it's almost December and I am still teaching

some the alphabet, Forget the upper case letters until

they learn the lower case. reading is so important and

alot of them won't be ready for first grade, but they'll

get there and always be behind the class because

they can't read.

SO true. Besides, it's great family time. We LOVE to make homework and learning FUN. I try not to push them too hard, but I try to be encouraging and focus on the excitement of the process and progress.
