This is where I lived from 1987 till 2000, & if life were just a little bit different, it's where I would want to be forever. It is full of magic, beauty, mysticism, majesty and miracles. It is not as unspoiled as it once was, but with the Haida managing to get an ever-firmer control of their home, it will never totally lose it's appeal. A place to see, a treasure!

Of the two places on the planet that I hope to go (other than my grandmother's hometown of Grenoble, France this and the coast of Maine are it! Thank you for sharing! Be careful you do not want it destroyed by tourism!
Oh, Knit - How I envy you your time in this magical place! I fell in love with it, by proxy, via the book "The Golden Spruce" and by way of my visit to southeastern Alaska last year. Some day I will go back, and I will visit your beautiful island.

Haven't gone back to visit, circumstances dictate that I'll never live there again (sigh!), but a piece of my heart lives there always. Was living there when the Golden Spruce was cut down by a colossal idiot - if the Haida had ever got their hands on him, he'd wish they would have only scalped him! Do visit, but do your homework first. You'll need to do some chartering to see the special places, either by boat or air. Ninstits is a must, in my opinion (lower sw corner of Moresby Island), but there's magic everywhere. Ferry travel there in the busy season has to be booked well in advance!
I can't believe you were living there when the idiot chopped down the spruce - I would have killed him myself if I could've reached through the pages of the book. IDIOT!!

Tons, but will need to scan them into the computer first, taken as snapshots, not digitally. Have one more here, Queen Charlotte docks, with our 45' sailboat front & center (more or less).
